Ex-convict recruitment policy

Understanding Our Ex-convict recruitment policy

This policy outlines our approach to hiring individuals with prior criminal convictions in a way that is fair, transparent, and prioritizes safety for our riders, drivers, and staff.

1. Equal Opportunity Commitment

Monochrome does not automatically disqualify individuals with criminal records from employment. All applicants will be considered based on merit, skills, and the relevance of any convictions to the role applied for.

2. Assessment Criteria

When evaluating candidates with a criminal record, the following will be taken into account:

  • The nature and severity of the offense

  • The time elapsed since the conviction or sentence

  • Rehabilitation efforts and references

  • The relevance of the offense to the role (e.g., financial crimes for finance roles, violent offenses for driver-facing roles)

  • Whether the role involves direct contact with vulnerable individuals or access to sensitive data

3. Disclosure Requirements

Applicants are required to disclose unspent convictions during the hiring process, in accordance with local laws. A failure to disclose relevant convictions may result in disqualification or dismissal if later discovered.

4. Confidentiality

All disclosed or discovered information about a candidate’s criminal history will be handled confidentially and in compliance with applicable data protection laws. Only staff directly involved in the hiring process will have access to such information.

5. Specific Roles Restrictions

For roles involving sensitive user data, direct interaction with customers, or access to financial systems, certain convictions (e.g., fraud, sexual offenses, violent crimes) may disqualify candidates to ensure safety and public trust.

6. Support for Reintegration

Monochrome may partner with rehabilitation or employment programs to support ex-offenders seeking to return to the workforce, and will offer fair opportunities where feasible.

7. Appeals & Reviews

If a candidate is declined employment due to their criminal record, they may request a written explanation and appeal the decision. Appeals will be reviewed by a neutral senior member go management.

Conclusion
Monochrome is committed to fairness, accountability, and community progress. By offering a path forward for ex-convicts, we aim to promote inclusion while maintaining a safe and trustworthy environment for all.
